Howdy, everyone! Today We have an interview with Alex Owens, who just released her novel Kill Me. (I adore the cover of this book!) Check out the blurb:Three days ago, Claire was a wife, a mother, and very much alive... then the music called for her.
Claire has one goal for the conference-- to land a few whales so that her boss will give her a badly needed raise. She pitches and prays while courting the music industry elite until her plans are derailed by hotness-in-high-heels.
Bette is at the conference on a mission--to find a human with untapped talents that she can mold and control. Bette uses her cursed violin to lure Claire in with a haunting song, which unravels Claire's life as her new talents emerge. To make matters worse, Claire is attracted to two unlikely people-- Bette and her hunky associate, Gregor. Both can light Claire's fire, but is either of them the only one?
Unfortunately for Claire, life isn't all song lyrics and seduction. Tied to darkness by blood and power, Claire must harness her abilities if she has any hope of returning home to her daughter and regaining her former life... if that's what she really wants.
Kill Me, the debut novel from author Alex Owens, is a quirky paranormal fantasy complete with music, magic, fangs and freaks. It is also the first in a planned series, with the second book due out by the Fall of 2012. Be forewarned, this is not your daughter's paranormal.
Learn how to purchase the book at the end of the interview!

Hello, Alex! Welcome to the blog! To start with, tell us a bit about the inspiration for Kill Me.
I adore paranormal novels. In fact, I cut my reading teeth reading all of Anne Rice's books back in the day. When I started this novel it was because I'd never quite found the one book I wanted to read-- one with a heroine more like myself. Not super-young and carefree and a little more mature, but with a hectic life and responsibilities. Why can’t a thirty-ish mother stumble headfirst into a world of darkness and (hopefully) come out the other side?
A Vampire soccer-mom. A Witch with a crumbling marriage. A vulnerable Empath in a strip club.
Would you be friends/associate with the characters in Kill Me? Why or why not?
Claire, the main character definitely. She’s like me— so busy trying to keep it all together that she forgets to take care of herself. I could see Cassidy being a good friend because she’s so bubbly and helpful. Even Vera, the tank-top wearing guitar maker has a deliciously twisted sense of humor so we’d get along just fine.
Clive creeps me out, so I’d avoid him at all costs if he lived in my home town. I’d probably avoid Gregor as well, since he’s uber-hunky and bound to be trouble. I’d be friends with Bette, but only if she deemed it so.
Do you read the same kinds of books you write? If there are any differences between the two, what are they?
Looking at my ipod will tell you that I’m into a little of everything. I read (and write) across genres too. I’d get bored if I didn’t. One day I’m in the mood for a murder mystery and Nina Simone, the next I’ve moved on to a pulse-quickening thriller with a little White Stripes in the background. Variety being the spice of life, and all that…
What do you think is alluring about your book? Why should someone pick it up?
Kill Me is not your daughter’s paranormal. It has fangs (scary, not sparkly) and freaks, a few rock-star moments and a non-traditional love triangle. During all that, the main character Claire also discovers that she possesses “talents” which she inherited from an Italian Strega in the sixteenth century.
If you can tell us, what is it you're working on now?
I need to start on the follow up to Kill Me— Kiss Me, which is book two in the Blood Chord Series. But I can’t seem to keep myself away from a manuscript I started during NaNoWriMo last November. It’s about an Animal ER nurse that starts having lucid dreams and seeing ravens everywhere. The birds, watchers really, are a sign that the end is near for Pia… and those dreams aren’t just fantasy, they’re past life memories.
And finally, everyone is so gaga over the idea of vampires vs werewolves. What two supernatural beings do you want to see do battle?
Hmmm. That’s a tough one. Since most people would go with the big, powerful beings with cool powers, I’m going to choose Gnome vs. Sprite for the battle in miniature.
